Over the next 3-5 years, Petros has committed to climbing the 7 summits of the world to raise much needed money and awareness for kids with cancer through Camp Quality.

“I love kids! My wife and I are very lucky to have two of our own and even more lucky they are healthy. Nothing saddens me more than seeing a child in pain or a child not able to be a child. By working with Camp Quality, I get to meet many kids who have grown up with cancer from a very young age and some from birth. For me, climbing the 7 summits is an easier task than some of the mountains these kids have to climb.”

On the 8th of September, Petros will be leaving Australia to climb the highest point of Africa, Mount Kiliminjaro, as the first of his 7 summits. This 5896m high altitude climb is diverse with summit glaciers, screes, cliffs, afro-alpine moorland and forests that lead down to the cultivated foothills below. It is perhaps one of the best known mountains of the world and some consider it the most romantic! Kilimanjaro is like an island, standing tall and sentinel surrounded by the hot, dry plains of Africa. It amazes all with its widely contrasting vegetation; from tropical rainforest to high arid moorlands, watched over by towering cliffs and glaciers. Kilimanjaro is the highest free-standing mountain in the world.

For the last 4 months Petros has been training very hard in preparation for this high altitude climb. He trains regularly with his personal trainer Glenn Hansen at CQ Physio, and spends a lot of time exploring our region testing himself with different missions like walking through the Berserkers, outdoor rock climbing or doing a boot camp with “The Commando “ from The Biggest Loser’s TV series. “There are many times I am physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted! I soon remember the overwhelming emotions I experienced from working with the Camp Quality kids, listening to their life stories or doing fun therapy. I love it how these kids think “Laughter is the best medicine” and very quickly after I have a giggle do I realize that I’ve actually got a little bit more in the tank and it ain’t that bad. It’s all about putting one foot in front of the other!”

Just like in this picture below, Petros will hopefully be standing at the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro holding the Camp Quality flag in the hope to bring optimism, happiness, strength and courage to the lives of children and families affected by cancer.

Petros hopes to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars through donations and sponsorship.
